Delmanor Northtown is overjoyed to have recently partnered with the well-known YouTuber, author, and coach, Evan Carmichael. In this multi-part series, he interviews a number of our residents about life, learning, and their incredible personal stories.
What’s striking about these videos is the youthful spirit and depth of wisdom each resident shares. It’s impossible to watch them without feeling more motivated, engaged, and reflective about your own life. Their messages are uplifting, heartwarming, insightful—and as unique and varied as they are.
How to Live Longer and Better, According to 90-Year-Olds
In one of the segments, Evan asked a group of seniors over the age of 90 what lessons they’ve learned for living a long, healthy, and fulfilling life. Their answers are wise, humorous, uplifting, and deeply honest.
Most importantly, they showcase active, healthy, sharp, quick-witted individuals—shattering stereotypes about aging. It’s a gift to hear a lifetime of wisdom from those who have truly lived.
The result is incredibly empowering. While each person’s story is unique, their advice centers around three key themes:
Living an Active and Healthy Life
Gordon, a wise and thoughtful man, is a devoted husband (he recently celebrated his 66th wedding anniversary) and served nearly three decades in the military. He speaks strongly about the importance of staying active.
His advice? Avoid bad habits like smoking, excessive drinking, and fast food. Start healthy routines early—exercise regularly and take care of your body from a young age.
At 101, Peggy is bursting with energy and enthusiasm. She practically bounces on the couch as she shares how she attends exercise classes every day and has always led an active life.
The Most Important Life Lessons
May reflects on the importance of finding meaning and purpose. “Don’t be consumed with just your home or work,” she says. “Explore passions that excite you.”
She fondly recalls her shared interests with her husband—like travel and the symphony—which kept her joyful and fulfilled throughout the years.
Lewis, a father of five, says success isn’t measured by wealth—but by the happiness of your family.
Staying True to Yourself
Peggy reminds us to enjoy what’s around us, to be ourselves, and to embrace new experiences.
Claire offers a message especially resonant with younger women: stop worrying about your appearance. “When people look at your face, they don’t see features,” she says. “They see emotion, happiness, and what you reflect back to them.”
Gordon’s message? Chart your own path. Detour if needed, be open to learning, but stay committed to your true purpose.
This series is more than just a collection of interviews—it’s a living testament to resilience, purpose, and joy. Through the voices of Delmanor residents, we’re reminded that aging isn’t about slowing down—it’s about growing deeper into who you really are.
